Rui Duarte Botelho Moreira Braga
1953 Born in Lisbon on April 16.


1966 As a teenager, begins his first drawing studies with the painter Miguel Arruda.


1972 Takes a free drawing course with the sculptor Hélder Baptista to prepare for admission to the Painting Course at ESBAL.
Enters the Painting Department of the Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa
, later transferring to the Department of Architecture.


1978 Completes a degree in Architecture with the grade of Good.
Scholarship holder of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Member of the National Society of Fine Arts (SNBA), the Association of Portuguese Architects (AAP) – later member 1168 of the Order of Architects – and the International Union of Architects (UIA.)
Develops his activity as a painter and as an architect, specializing in this area in residential projects and collective facilities – auditoriums, cinemas/theatres and churches -.


ACTIVITY AS A PAINTER

1986 Resumes activity in the area of painting.
Participates in the group painting exhibition “Salão Convívio” at SNBA.


1987
Participates in the group painting exhibition “PrĂ©mio Malhoa” at SNBA.
Is admitted as a beneficiary of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores (SPA).


1988/89
Develops various pictorial works about historical and architectural heritage, whose prints are promoted by the Instituto PortuguĂȘs do PatrimĂłnio ArquitetĂłnico (IPPAR) and by the Instituto PortuguĂȘs de Museus (IPM).

Carries out painting commissions for “Aldeia do Golfe” and “GolfĂ©rias” in Vilamoura, Cortal, Sa., Interdarte, Lda., Sofinloc Sa., the restaurant “PĂĄginas Tantas” (Bairro Alto), and various private collections.

Stay in England to execute a commission about “LLOYD’S OF LONDON” (screenprint edition produced at António Inverno’s studio).

1990 Commission from CORREIOS DE PORTUGAL to create the 5 commemorative stamps for the “Centenary of Rossio Station”.

Solo painting exhibition at the Galeria de Arte dos CTT, at Fórum Picoas, titled “Estação Central”.

Commissioned by CP – Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses, for screenprint editions (produced at António Inverno’s studio), and acquisition of the originals related to the locomotives and Rossio Station, included in the commemorative stamp edition of “100 Anos da Estação Central”.

Assigns copyright to the LaboratĂłrio Nacional de Engenharia Civil for the use of reproductions of paintings about Lisbon on the covers of the 3 brochures for the international EUROCK 93 congress.

1994 The Elvas City Council commissions paintings surveying the most significant historical/architectural heritage and their reproduction in prints for promotion at the Tourist Office.

1995 Retrospective painting exhibition at the Galeria de Arte do Alvito. The Alvito City Council and the Pousada do Castelo do Alvito commission prints to promote the municipality’s historical/architectural heritage.

Participation in the Ibero-American Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, organized by the Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores, which acquires original paintings and offers all international delegations a screenprint by the author.

2020 – Has an epiphany that inspires him to absorb compositions from nature and our everyday life, which he deconstructs and recreates, producing a line of figurative abstract art in which he explores his ability for chromatic control.

Is invited by Editora Moderna of São Paulo, Brazil, to grant copyright for 2 themes from the series “O Auto da Barca do Inferno” for inclusion in the book “Identidade em Ação – Língua Portuguesa” by Thelma Carvalho Guimarães, commissioned by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture as a high school textbook.

2021 – Exhibits at the Art Gallery of the Museu da Luz “ALQUEVA – a Arte da Terra”, with the sponsorship of EDIA and the Museu da Luz.
Presents a line of abstract painting inspired by the banks washed by the waters of Alqueva, which reveal their “intimidades” when the reservoir level drops during the summer.

Passionate about Alentejo, where he spends long periods, he paints themes about its historical-architectural heritage.

2022 – Continues painting themes about Alentejo, preparing the exhibition “A Cor do PatrimĂłnio”, scheduled for the Museu da Luz from November 18 to January 29, 2023. It has sponsorship from EDIA and the Museu da Luz.

Presents his works aimed at decoration in hospitality and cultural tourism, in an interview in Business and Science Networks magazine on the theme Tourism and Culture, coinciding with the Culture and Tourism Innovation Global Summit in Lisbon.
